Anthony D’Amato to support Ian Felice
10th September, 2017

Some of you may have heard the news that Gill Landry can no longer support Ian Felice’s Leeds show. Now, we thought it wasn’t fair to dangle someone as good as Gill in front of you and then take him away. So, we’ve pulled it out of the bag and only gone and got Anthony D’Amato to take a night out of his schedule as tour support to Ricky Ross (Deacon Blue) to come to Leeds and open up this show!! Exciting times!

‘Cold Snap’ (2016) is Anthony D’Amato’s most ambitious record yet – Produced by Mike Mogis (Bright Eyes, First Aid Kit) and recorded with contributions from an Omaha all-star team including Conor Oberst and members of Bright Eyes, The Faint, and Cursive. Rolling Stone hailed it as “folk music raised on New Jersey grit” and named D’Amato an Artist You Need To Know.

The record follows D’Amato’s 2014 New West debut, ‘The Shipwreck From The Shore,’ which was inspired in part by his time studying with the Pulitzer Prize-winning Irish poet Paul Muldoon and earned raves on both sides of the pond, with NPR lauding that “he writes in the tradition of Bruce Springsteen or Josh Ritter” and Uncut proclaiming that his songwriting “echoes with early Bob Dylan.” Songs from the record collectively cracked more than five million plays on Spotify and turned up on the ABC series Nashville.

Who is Colm Mac Con Iomaire ?

1. Involved with legendary band The Frames since 1990. Colm is an integral member and his exquisitely expressive fiddle playing gives the band an added layer of complexity. They have many great songs but perhaps he shines best on Fitzcarraldo.

2. Played violin on David Gray’s 1998 hit studio album White Ladder (on the track Silver Lining). You all know the song such was the popularity of that album.

3. From 2006 onwards Colm continued his involvement with Glen Hansard as a touring member of the band that made up The Swell Season. Their hit song “Falling Slowly” was on a Frames album before it gained notary as part of the film “Once”. Therefore Colm actually had a big hand in the writing of the of the song.

4. Colm’s first solo album “The Hares Corner” (Cúinne an Ghiorria) was released in 2008 and was nominated for the prestigious Meteor Award for Best Traditional/Folk Album.

5. Colm’s 2nd solo album “And Now The Weather” (Agus Anois an Aimsir) was released in 2015 and was shortlisted for the Choice Music Award (Ireland’s version of the Mercury Music Prize).

6. Having provided pieces of music for film, TV & Theatre, Colm was commissioned by the Irish Writers Centre to write a piece of music to accompany poems by 6 leading Irish writers. He called this piece of music “Solasta” and later performed it for the President of Ireland!

7. We hope this has given you an insight into the brilliance that is Colm Mac Com Iomaire. He is unique and his music is stunningly beautiful. See for yourself at Brudenell Social Club on Sun 6th Nov 2016.

Changes to Hee Haw HQ
16th July, 2014

We are making some changes in the Hee Haw HQ – Brett will be leaving us in a couple of weeks. He has been with us for over 5 years and his contribution to the cause has been magnificent. The whole experience has been a positive one which has ended as nicely as it started and leaves both myself and Brett with one additional amazing friendship in each our lives. Hee Haw wishes him and his lovely family the best of luck for the future.

Going forward not too much will change; Tré will be the main point of contact for all things Hee Haw. In addition, there will be a small team of helpers to do the wee jobs on the ground in Leeds. You may see them about from time to time, please be as nice to them as you have been to us over the years!

Statement from Brett:
It is with much sadness that we have to announce that I will be leaving Hee Haw Sessions this summer. Tré and I have worked together now for over 5 years, building Hee Haw, sharing the love (as well as at times the pain!), working with some of our favourite artists and bringing some great music to Leeds and beyond. This is an amicable parting. We will always remain best of friends and may even work together again in the future. Balancing work, travel and family life with the job of promoting is never easy and it is time to let Tré take the reins again. My parting will not mean the end for Hee Haw and I have no doubt Tré will ensure Hee Haw Sessions continues to grow from strength to strength. I will be setting something up myself later in the year, doing a few shows I hope and I will make sure you are all invited. Putting on these shows with Tré has been a hugely positive experience and a big part of my life over the last few years. It has been wonderful to meet you all, make some real friends and I hope to see you all again over the coming months and years – at Hee Haw events, other gigs and even my own. Thanks so much to you all for your support over the years and to Tré who has been a truly wonderful partner. My last show will be with Rosanne Cash – what a way to bow out! See you soon x
